MLK Day of Service
The MLK Day of Service is dedicated to the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in honor of his legacy and passion for serving others. "Make it a Day On, Not a Day Off” and find planned projects in your community. You can also develop a project with family, friends, and neighbors. In 2022, EngageAR invested $5,705.96 in volunteer projects across the state for the MLK Day of Service.
In 2023, Engage Arkansas worked to support the Little Free Pantry Movement statewide. Through a donation of 100 old newspaper dispensers by the Arkansas Democrat Gazette, we supported over 60 communities as they upcycled and repurposed them into mini food pantries. Partnering communities hosted block parties and food drives to bring their community together on the Day of Service. Check out the map to see where the pantries were placed across the state.
Did you miss out on this event? You can create your own Little Free Pantry by using our handy MLK Project Toolkit. We don't have any additional dispensers, but that shouldn't stop you. Get creative! Old pallets or spare wood would make a great mini food pantry.
