AmeriCorps in Arkansas
AmeriCorps connects individuals and organizations to help communities tackle their toughest challenges. National service opportunities have an impact on Arkansas workforce development, giving participants relevant experience and on-the-job training.
There are many ways to get involved with AmeriCorps through various streams of service in Arkansas. AmeriCorps streams of service include AmeriCorps National and State, AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America), AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps), and AmeriCorps Seniors. Key focus areas include education, economic opportunity, disaster services, environmental stewardship, healthy futures, and veterans & military families.

AmeriCorps members serve as life coaches, assisting Arkansans working on their GED, preparing and equipping them for a successful career.

Arkansas Reads
AmeriCorps members are placed in local literacy councils to provide one-on-one literacy tutoring or English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction to adults in Arkansas. Members receive training to become certified Basic English Literacy and ESL tutors.

BearsServe Leaders
AmeriCorps members provide tutoring and mentoring, food recovery and gardening, and financial literacy service at nonprofit community partner sites. Operated through the UCA Service-Learning Program, BearsServe Leaders allows UCA students to serve their communities and develop leadership skills.

Future Teacher Initiative

AmeriCorps members serve in the River Valley and Northwest Arkansas preschool classrooms using the Jumpstart for Young Children curriculum to ensure kindergarten readiness. Jumpstart partners with universities and colleges to recruit college students to serve in preschool classrooms in underserved communities.

Neighborhood Red Wolves Community Engagement Program
AmeriCorps members mentor and tutor students in grades 7-12 to support increased math proficiency and college readiness. Our House AmeriCorps Program
AmeriCorps members provide job placement services and job support to unemployed and underemployed homeless or near-homeless adults. They implement school-readiness interventions, development support, and educational programming for preschool children who are homeless or near-homeless, and out-of-school time programming for K-12 students who are homeless or near-homeless.

Our House Public Health AmeriCorps Program
The Public Health AmeriCorps member will serve in person to meet the health needs and advance more equitable health outcomes for homeless and near-homeless adults and children treated by the Mental Health team at Our House and Harmony Health Clinic. They will support uninsured and insured individuals with barriers to health access, completing health screenings and referrals, mental health support, and benefits assistance, helping families and individuals move towards increased empowerment.

Pfeifer Camp
AmeriCorps members mentor and tutor at-risk 3rd-5th grade students at school and in a camp setting to improve their academics and behavior. Members receive extensive training in First Aid/CPR, Reciprocal Teaching, Reality Therapy, Outdoor Living Skills, Environmental Education, Team-building initiatives, and conflict resolution.
